When I bathe
or even clean my home, I find it necessary to use products which are pretty and
fragrant. I even use a pretty pink broom and mop. The
category of Slippery When Wet is where you will find the fun and fragrant
bath items.
I
enjoy experimenting while making products, so there is no
guarantee that I will ever duplicate a batch of soap. Most of my
soaps are made from scratch and made the old fashioned way. It is called
the cold process method, and it is where lye and oils suponify. I use
lard or tallow along with sunflower oil and coconut oil in most of the
soaps. If a type of soap is made with all vegetable oils, I
will mention that. Tallow or lard makes a harder bar of soap which
will lather more and last longer. To me, soap has to lather to clean.
Tallow and lard are byproducts from the meat of a cow or pig. I do
understand the choice not to use products derived from animals. After a
batch of soap is made, it has to cure for two or more weeks. This
curing allows for the soap to harden and the PH to slightly lower. There
are pre-made soap mixes that can be melted and poured into pretty
molds along with additives of herbs, colors, and fragrance.
These are much easier to make and they do not have to be cured. I will specify
if the soap is from a melt and pour mix. I only use natural or USD/USDA
approved coloring. I use natural herbs, spices, powders, cosmetic grade
glitter, mica, and pigment, along with fragrance oils, and essential
oils. Fragrance oils are less expensive, but they are not derived from
the plant as essential oils are.
A list of ingredients is on the item's tag and also in the item
description. As with any soap or lotion, stop using it if a rash or
irritation persists and consult your doctor if necessary.
With the use of colorings, there may be a slight transfer of color onto lightly
colored washcloths. If this is a problem for you, please use a puff or
darker colored washcloth. The colorings will not stain you if the soap is
properly rinsed off.
No matter how old we get, we want to look and smell pretty. Try a
fragrant bar of soap or some lotion today and see how you feel!
